Born 28th June 1874 at Port Sorell to Jacob Barker and Lydia Lacey Hedges, he died of enteric fever on June 15th 1900 at Deelfontein Cape Colony.
From a letter from his father dated November 11, 1902 it appears that Private Barker was born at the Forth Tasmania and was within a fortnight of 26 years of age. He was a son of the soil and had always been engaged in farm work, and like many others, had taken a turn at road work. He was always a good son to his parents. He was a member of the Christian Endeavour Society and he was also a good soldier as Major Wallace Brown can testify.∼Service number: 56
