Funeral services for Thaddeus Eugene Underwood, age 93 of Cookeville, Tennessee will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 2:00PM from the Cookeville Church of the Nazarene on Old Kentucky Road. Stephen Morrison & James Staggs will officiate at the service. Visitation with the family will be held at Whitson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00-9:00PM and Thursday at the Church from 12:00Noon till time of the service at 2:00PM. Burial with full Military Honors will be held following the service at the Algood City Cemetery in Algood, Tennessee.

Mr. Underwood passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the Bailey Manor in Cookeville, Tennessee. Thaddeus Eugene Underwood was born on February 2, 1926 in White County, Tennessee to the late Charlie and Alton (Taylor) Underwood. He worked as a Steam & Pipe Fitter and also served in the United States Army during World War II. Thaddeus was of the Nazarene faith and attended the Cookeville Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Underwood left behind a rich legacy and heritage, displayed by his commitment, love, and dedication to the Kingdom of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Part of his commitment included the previous pastoring of the Algood Nazarene Missions Congregation in the 1960’s and the Rockwood Church of the Nazarene in Rockwood, TN during the 1980’s.

He was a current member and as well as oldest of Cookeville Church of the Nazarene and held many leadership positions there during his lifetime.

Mr. Underwood proudly served his country during WWII as a live combat soldier. His service was recognized by the presentation of many awards, medals, and ribbons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his much treasured and loved wife of 66years Elbirda D.(McCloud) Underwood and a Son: Grady Underwood.

His survivors include Children & Spouses: Eugene(Juanita) Underwood, Beecher(Ann) Underwood, the late Grady Underwood & Surviving spouse Anita, William “Bill”(Lavenia) Underwood, Robert(Melissa) Underwood, Elizabeth(Stan) Sparkman, Marsha Martin, Delorise(Jeff) Fuqua, Linda(Micheal) Pastor, Charlene(Darrell) Church, Rosa(Troy) Ramsey.

21 Grandchildren, 43 Great Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren

Pallbearers will be: Eugene Underwood Jr., Duane Underwood, Scott Underwood, Robert S. Underwood, James Sparkman, Thaddeus Sparkman, William Sparkman, Stephen Collins, and Landon Ramsey.
