McDONALD - Sam D. Acierno, 84, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Humility House Care Center in Youngstown.

He was born March 28, 1926, Girard, the son of the late Andrew and Nancy (Emmo) Acierno.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Philippians with the U.S. Army Infantry. He was retired from Youngstown Steel Door.

He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald, the VFW, and the Old Timers Club. He loved baseball and the Indians. He enjoyed picnicking, gardening, playing cards, music, food and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Iaderosa) Acierno, whom he married Jan. 20, 1950; a son, Joseph (Pamela) Acierno of Cortland; a son-in-law, Dennis Mounts of McDonald; two brothers, John (Joanne) Acierno and Alfred (Jessie) Acierno, both of Girard; a sister, Louise Tubic of Youngstown; two sisters-in-law, Muffy (Chuck) Burrelli of Youngstown and Ida (Al) Lucarelli of Lordstown; two grandchildren, Jensen and Noah Acierno; and two step grandchildren, Brianna and Grace.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Sam Acierno; a daughter, Karen Mounts; three brothers, Floyd, Steve and Jim Acierno; and four sisters, Magdalene Rudinsky, Rose Romito, Sylvia Harper and Mary Acierno.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at tge funeral home.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
