J.S. Burns came to Texas a number of years ago and first settled at Milburn, where he was engaged in farming, merchandising, and the milling business. He moved to Brownwood in 1899 and during his time here, he was involved in farming, contracting, and building. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a teacher in the Sunday School, and has been identified with the church for a greater part of his life. He was a Confederate veteran, a member of Camp Stonewall Jackson, and a prominent man. Survived by his wife; seven children.
