SAMUEL W. McKNEELY was born in Lousiana, in 1813, and immigrated to Texas in 1835. Mr. McKneely enlisted in the Texas army of Bexar, December 9, 1835, and under the command of Captain William S. Fisher, fought at the Battle of San Jacinto , on April 21, 1836. He was later captured at San Patricio, February 27, 1836 and was taken to Matamoras as a prisoner. Samuel was discharged from the army, December 29, 1836.

Samuel W McKneely married three times, but never had any children, and his wife's names were previously unknown to the author, but due to the volunteer photo takers on Find a Grave.com, we now know his third wife was Olivia Mattie Whitaker. Supposedly his first wife was Threcian Dickson, and his second was her sister Hannah Lavinia Dickson, who died in 1876. He lived for a number of years in Point Coupe Parrish, Louisiana. Mr. McKneeley some times spelled McNeeley, died in TexarKana, Arkansas, and was laid to rest in the State Line Cemetery, located in the 3000 block of North State Line Avenue, Texarkana. Many of the headstones in this cemetery are in very bad condition, but as you can see by the attached photo, Mr. McKneely's grave is easily recognized.
