He was past president of the Alumni Association of Pennsylvania State College of Optometry. He was associated with his father, Dr. Charles H. Sullivan in Camden, New Jersey in 1940.

He practiced optometry in Camden, New Jersey. He was a member of the Haddonfield Methodist Church, Camden Rotary, Haddonfield Lodge F&AM, Camden County YMCA, past president of the American Optometric Association.

On November 26, 1978, Doctor Howard E. Sullivan, Husband of Lena M. (nee Meyer) of 268 Jefferson Avenue, Haddonfield, N. J. Age 78 years. Also survived by two sons; Howard E. Sullivan, Jr., M. D. of Rosemont, PA, and Theodore R. Sullivan of Strafford, PA, a sister, Mrs. Emma S. Ware, of Haddonfield and 8 grandchildren. Services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 a.m., in the Sanctuary of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, Warwick Rd., Haddonfield, where friends may call after 10 a.m. in the Felton Room of the Church. Interment Harleigh Cemetery. Contributions as a memorial may be made to the Church. Arrangements by Holl-Murphy of Haddonfield.
