Ruth S. Watson
PROVINCETOWN — Ruth S. Watson, age 91, a lifelong Provincetown resident, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on June 24, 2010.She has now rejoined her beloved Horace Kilbourne Watson, who passed away on June 4, 2009, and with whom she shared 73 years of marriage. The daughter of the late John and Minnie (Simmons) Sylver, Ruth was educated in the Provincetown schools and was a proud graduate of Provincetown High School. She married Kilbourne in 1936 and dedicated her life to caring for her beloved family.Ruth was a true lover of all animals; she always surrounded herself with horses, ponies, ducks and geese, and adopted two Dobermans from the Doberman Rescue Society. She and Kilbourne played a major part in the history of old Provincetown. They cherished Provincetown and never had any desire to leave the town where they were both born and would raise their family. Every night they would drive their white Cadillac the length of Commercial Street, stopping at MacMillan Wharf before savoring the magical sunsets at Herring Cove Beach. Each spring they would enjoy visiting Beech Forest to watch as the new goslings would develop into mature geese.Ruth was also a dedicated and devoted member of the Provincetown United Methodist Church. She will always be remembered for her love and kindness shown to friend and foe alike.Ruth is survived by her devoted children, Horace J. Watson, Ruth W. Dutra, and Jon W. Watson, all of Provincetown; cherished grandchildren Ruth Anne Cowing of Provincetown, Julie L. Watson and Horace K. Watson of Goldsboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, Shankpainter Road, Provincetown.
