Hugh Gaston Weir, son of Charles and Margaret [née Gaston] Weir, was born in Chester, South Carolina. His parents were both Scotch-Irish Presbyterians; whose families had both help America in its fight for independence.
In the early 1830's, Hugh's family emigrated to the "black-belt" of Wilcox County, Alabama; known for its rich farm land.
