Robert Denning Stewart, son of John and Emily Stewart was born in O'Brien County Jan. 28, . 1884. He moved to Osceola county at the age of 12 years.
He was married to Elsie Lutson on July 14, 1909. They lived at Ocheyedan until 1912 when they moved to Sibley. He was employed at the H.A. Miller Dept. Store until 1915 when he became City Clerk, an office which he held for 38 years. He was a member of the Congregational Church where he served as deacon. He was a long-time member of the asonic Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master of Broken Column Lodge, High Priest of the Commandery and past commander of Knight Templers. He was also a member of the Rotary Club.
Mr. Stewart passed away suddenly on Saturday morning at his home. He is survived by his wife, 4 brothers; Cas. of Manson, Iowa, William of Minneapolis, Dan of Santa Ana, California, Ray of Rib Lake, Wisconsin, and 2 sisters: MRs. Porter (Nellie) Parker of Clear Lake, South Dakota, and Mrs. Frank (Lottie) Mcgranahan of Ocheyedan, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Funeral services for Mr. Stewart were Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational Church with the Rev. Gerald Eslinger of Sheldon officiating. Burial was in the Ocheyedan cemetery with Walton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
