"NORTH JACKSON -- Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lane-Williams Funeral Home in Canfield for Monroe M. Forney, 85, of 12865 N. Palmyra Road, who died of a stroke at 9 a.m. Thursday at his home. Mr. Forney was born Aug. 14, 1896, in Beaver Township, a son of Emanuel and Viola Lesher Forney. He retired in 1958 from the former Johnson Lumber Company in Canfield and was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War I. He also raised show ponies for many years and was a lifetime member of Mahoning Valley Pony Breeders Association. His wife, Elta, whom he married Feb. 8, 1919, died Nov. 26, 1980.He leaves three brothers, Elwood and Leroy Forney, both of North Lima, and Howard Forney in Florida; a granddaughter, Mrs. Donna Benner, with whom he made his home; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Donald, died July 14, 1970, and a sister, Myrtle, is also deceased. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.8/28/81."

He lived in Canfield, Ohio and was well known as an exhibitor of fine ponies ("Forney's Midget Ponies"). They had hundreds of ribbons, trophies, and cups that they had won at fairs and horse shows. They had shown as far west as Oklahoma and throughout the east. The Forney's had known pony breeders all over the United States."
