Bob was born January 26, 1955 in Houston, Texas, to Robert and Lydia Zimmerman. Later that year he moved to Skagit Valley with his family and attended Burlington-Edison High School, where he graduated with the class of 1973 with honors.
He continued his education at Washington State University for two years before joining the U.S. Army as a general mechanic. He was stationed in Korea with the 38th air Defense Artillery Brigade and honorably discharged in 1976. He then returned to WSU, where he earned his Bachelor's of Science in Horticulture with honors.
Bob used his love for plants and nature to form American Landscapes in 1980, in which he owned and operated until his passing.
He is survived by his three sons: Maxwell, Samuel and Marcus; granddaughter: Blake; and extensive family including four brothers, (Michael, Greg, Terry, Steve); two sisters, (Patty & Mary); as well as his parents, (Robert & Aggie Zimmerman).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia, and brother, Vincent.
The family would like to thank Skagit Valley Hospital, as well as a very special thanks to the staff at Burton Home Care in Burlington.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at Saint Charles Catholic Church in Burlington, WA, followed by a Committal Service at Bayview Cemetery. There will be a reception following at Bayview Community Hall.
