She was born on June 3, 1929, in Lansing, Mich., to Chester A. and Francis Siegel Stell. She married J. Robert Dougherty on Feb. 23, 1951, in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Micheal (Gina) Dougherty of Oklahoma City, Okla., John (Ruthanna) Dougherty of Reedsburg, Wis., and Thomas (Deborah) Dougherty of Princeville, Ill.; one daughter, Ann (Nick) Cappelletti of Saugatuck, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert (Dee) Stell of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law, Sharon (the late Vance) Stell of Apache Junction, Ariz.
Joyce earned her bachelor's degree from St. Francis of Joliet and was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in 1950.
She was an OSF registered nurse for 44 years, last working as a pediatric nursing care manager at OSF Children's Hospital in Peoria.
Joyce was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, where she served on the funeral committee. She was also a member of Senior Saints, Children's Miracle Network and a volunteer at St. Francis Convent.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Mark's Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of Illinois or St. Francis School of Nursing.
