Father of Rev. W.F. Conn Succumbs Following Illness And Operation
J.J. Conn, 64, one of Rome's most beloved citizens and father of Rev. W.F. Conn, died at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Mr. Conn had been in failing health for some time and underwent a major operation several days ago. Although he has been at death's door for several days, his death came as a great shock to his many friends.
Mr. Conn was born in Texas and spent the most of his boyhood days in Cherokee County. Moving to this city from that section he has been a resident of Rome for 43 years. Miss Octavia Dobson of Rome became his wife and she preceded him to the grave by a few months. One son likewise preceded his father to the grave a short time ago.
Always faithful to his church, Mr. Conn has been a deacon of the West Rome Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Woodmen.
Surviving him are: two children, Rev. W.F. Conn and Mrs. Douglas McGinnis, of Houston, Texas. Ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held from the West Rome Baptist Church, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. The Revs. J.E. Smith and J.A. Crumbley officiating. Interment will be in the Fellowship Cemetery with the Odd Fellows Lodge Number 40 having charge at the grave. Lodge members having charge are requested to meet at the church at 10 o'clock. All members are invited to attend the funeral.
The following friends will act as pallbearers are requested to meet at the Cole Funeral home at 9:30 o'clock: E.P Grant, R.A. Carter, H.A. Hatfield, P.A. Nolan, G.W. Smith and W.B. Bradfield.
