Bruce Raymond Bicknell, a resident of Boring, died Monday, June 14, at his home. He was 68.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 19, at Orient Drive Baptist Church. Private inurnment was to be held at a later date at River View Cemetery in Portland.
Bruce was born May 28, 1942, in Redding, Calif., to Raymond and Frances (Kritz) Bicknell. When he was a boy, the family moved to Portland. After graduating from Benson High School, Bruce entered the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged in 1972 as a master sergeant. Bruce returned to Portland and started working for Fred Meyer.
On June 27, 1975, he married Judith Yeager in Vancouver, Wash. They made their home in Milwaukie, where they raised their family, and Bruce continued working for Fred Meyer. In 1974, he began working at United Grocers as a project manager and later worked as a corporate engineer until his retirement in 2005. Bruce and Judy moved to Boring in 2007.
Bruce loved spending time outdoors in his yard, and he was an avid boater. He was a member of the Columbia River Yacht Club and was commodore of the Trailer Sailors and vice-commodore of the Dolphin Yacht Club. He had a heart for animals, even rescuing them. Bruce enjoyed doing various types of construction projects, including sheds and garages. He also enjoyed playing with electric trains. He attended Orient Drive Baptist Church and was recently baptized.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Oregon Humane Society, P.O. Box 11364, Portland, 97211-0364; or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
