David Finis Gaston, son of John Gaston and the former Mary Kirkpatrick; who moved to Wilcox County, Alabama from Chester, South Carolina in 1810. On June 17, 1848 David married Mary Fluker, daughter of William and Margaret [Cammack] Fluker; with whom he had seven children. After Mary's death in 1884; David married Julia Howard, daughter of Charles and Priscilla [Dowsing] Howard. There were no children in this marriage.

David F. Gaston, was one of the largest land owners in Wilcox County and the founder of Gastonburg, Alabama. David Gaston served in the Alabama Legislature and responsible for bringing the Southern Railroad from Selma to Mobile. In Gastonburg, he built schools and the Gaston Presbyterian Church.

David Finis Gaston departed this life on the 20th day of May 1895 at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was buried in the Gaston family plot near his parents and first wife.
