PRESTON S. WALLACE'S NAME:
His given name at birth was Preston Wallace. He added the middle initial "S" when he thought he needed a middle initial. The "S" did not stand for anything according to son-in-law Woodie Hammond. He might have meant to honor both his father Sam and his mother's Smith side of the family.

Marriage: Preston and Birdie were married by J.D. Woodson, pastor of First Baptist Church . J.R. Clifton and Miss Crystal Tisdale were witnesses. Per family tradition and supported by photographs, Preston and Birdie were married sitting in a wagon in the outdoors. He married Birdie Viola Wynn on 3 June 1914, in Kuttawa, Lyon Co., KY.

Preston S. Wallace Passes Away After Long Illness

Death came to Preston S. Wallace early Monday morning, December 9, at the Magraw Clinic where he had been receiving treatment for some few days. Even though he had been able to be out on the streets, he had been quite ill for more than 18 months.

Mr. Wallace was born in Trigg County, near Trigg Furnace, Sept. 11, 1889, and was the son of Sam and Emma Smith Wallace. While just a lad he with his parents, moved to the Between the Rivers section of the County where he was residing when in 1914 he was united in marriage to Bertie Wynn. They made their home at Bleidt, Ky., until 1920, when the family moved to Cadiz and became engaged in the produce business with his brother, Albert Wallace known then as the "Cadiz Trading Co."

In 1931 the two brothers opened the grocery store under the name of Albert Wallace & Co., and have been operating that business since that time.

The deceased was a friend in business, as well as in his social life, to all. He met everyone with a smile and never failed to help anyone in need.

The entire community and county feel the loss of this good citizen. He once remarked to friends, " I owe it to my friends and family to be honest and upright."

At the age of 15 Mr. Wallace united with the Hurricane Baptist Church, bringing his membership to the Cadiz Baptist church when he moved here to live where he was a true member until the last.

Funeral services were conducted from the Goodwin Funeral home Tuesday afternoon with his pastor, the Rev. Shirley Spahr officiating, assisted by the Rev. E.R. Noel and L.B. Hooks.

Interment was made in East End Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Albert, Furman and Eurie Wallace, Seldon Major, Sam Bush and R.E. Hale.
The floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Harold Witty., Miss Louise Cunningham, Ann Futrell, Shirley Spahr, Patsy Stone, Ann Barber Roberts, Mary Catherine Wallace, Doris Cunningham, Martha Nell Thomas, Margie Bush, Geneva Bush, Ann Feltner, and Mrs. Jessee Calhoun.

Hale, Owensboro, and three brothers, Albert of this city, Eurie of Hopkinsville, and Furman, Bowling Green.
