An Old Resident Has Passed Away

Death Calls Custer Henry Bates to His Final Reward.

Custer Henry Bates, one of the oldest residents of this city, passed away this morning after a long illness. He was aged 68 years and had been regarded as one of the worthiest citizens of this city for a great many years. He lived a circumspect life filled with oasis of good works. For many months he had been a sufferer from Bright's disease, which was the immediate cause of his death.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters and one son. They are Mrs. John Heckert, of North Pennsylvania avenue; Mrs. William Shadley, of Coffeyville; Miss Sophia Bates of this city, and Robert Bates, a clerk in DeBar's dry goods store.

The funeral will take place from the family residence, 800 North Tenth street, Friday afternoon at four o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. F. Randall, of the Episcopal church. Interment will take place in Mt. Hope cemetery.
