Neri L. Ackles

Neri L. Ackles, Oregon pioneer, died May 4 in his home, 1021 East 24th St. North. Funeral services were held at Finlay's chapel Monday and burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Ackles was born July 30, 1860, in Linn County, Missouri. When he was but 5 years old he crossed the plains to Oregon with his parents Mr. & Mrs. George Ackles. They settled near La Grande, where he lived until 1881, when he was married to Alice Kirk of Athena, Oregon.

For several years he was a stage driver, first driving the route between Ontario and Vale, in this state, and later taking the route between Lake Chelan and Waterville, in Washington. In the fall of 1907 he moved to Portland, where he had resided since. For some time he was engaged in the real estate business in this city. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Elsie Hays of Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Viva Daly of Vancouver, Wash. He was an active member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Woodman of the World.
