ARLENE E. (DEMMON) CROSS, 100 Served in W.A.V.E.S. during WWII; worked at LHS

LEOMINSTER - Arlene E. (Demmon) Cross, 100, of Leominster, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, in the Keystone Center.

Mrs. Cross was born on Dec. 19, 1909, in Fitchburg, the daughter of George and Lula (Page) Demmon and had lived in Leominster for over 60 years.

She graduated from Fitchburg Normal School and served in W.A.V.E.S. of the U.S. Navy during World War II. She most recently worked in the cafeteria at Leominster High School several years ago.

Mrs. Cross was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Leominster, where she was a former member of the Friendly Circle, the church choir and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the former Thursday Musical Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn I. Rice and her husband, Fredrick, of Leominster and Rosemary S. Marshall of Fitchburg; two sisters, Isabel Demmon of Fitchburg and Priscilla Peterson of Agawam; four grandsons and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred W. Cross in 1987. She was also predeceased by her brother, Philip Demmon.

A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrim Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 26 West St., Leominster.

The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
