Viola G. (Huls) Ackerman, 80, Beatrice, died Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2003, at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born March 14, 1923, at rural Beatrice, attended country school and Beatrice High School. She was married to Robert Ackerman on Nov. 14, 1951, in Beatrice. She worked at the Beatrice State Developmental Center in housekeeping for several years and then at the Beatrice Manor in the laundry department. She was a member of the West Side Community Church, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Salvation Army, all in Beatrice. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pickrell, and St. John Lutheran Church, Beatrice. She enjoyed her grandchildren and attending their ball games, and enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, cross stitching, fishing, and Nebraska football.
Survivors: husband, Robert; sons, Donald Huls and wife Norma of Beatrice, Theodore Huls of Stigler, Okla., and Gerald Myron "Jerry" Ackerman and wife Lucy of Beatrice; daughters, Laurinda Bartholomew and husband William of Escondido, Calif., Betty Ward and husband Michael, and Bobbie Carel and husband Michael, all of Beatrice, Viola Kennedy and husband Danny, Georgia Schuerman and husband Byron, all of DeWitt; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; stepsons, Robert Ackerman of Seattle, Wash., and Tommy Ackerman of Oceanside, Calif.,; stepdaughter, Rebecca Ackerman of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, Harm Huls and wife Tena of Beatrice, John Huls and wife Irma of Waverly; sisters, Emma Vliet of Lincoln and Darlene Cochran of Tacoma, Wash.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Johanna (Ackerman) Huls; granddaughter, Jerrica Janice Schuerman; sisters, Welma Lairmore and Donna Wahlstrom; brothers, Pete and Dale Huls.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, Scott Commins officiating. Burial of cremains: Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, Neb. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the funeral home in charge. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing, but a register book will be available for signatures at the funeral home until time of service. Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, in charge of the arrangements.
