Promoted to Staff Sergeant, he then served in a chemical weapons company assigned to the China-Burma-India Theater until his discharge in November 1945. Elected to represent two different New York Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1963 to 1981. Represented first the 4th District from 1963 to 1973, then the 5th District from 1973 to 1981.
