As a child, Matt enjoyed playing checkers, tennis, basketball, football and golf. He was raised in Minot and educated at Nedrose Elementary School and Minot High School, graduating in 2007.

Following graduation he was employed as a grounds keeper at the Minot Air Force Base Golf Course, Mike Cymbuluk Construction, and at Charlie's Meat Cutting. Most recently, he was employed by Marian Construction of Rolette, ND as a groundskeeper.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the YMCA, both of Minot.

Matt was an outdoorsman to say the least. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with either a bow or gun, taking a special interest in grouse, pheasant and deer hunting. Playing Xbox, darts, and poker were also interests in his life. Matt was a young, happy go lucky type of man, who always took the time to say hello. He will be deeply missed for all of these qualities that made him a great son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

Surviving family includes: parents, Herbert D. and JoNell Anderson, Minot, ND; sister, Brittany Anderson, Minot; maternal grandparents, Linda and Doug Weltzin, Minot; paternal grandmother, Rose Anderson, Devils Lake, ND; maternal great-grandmother, Edith DeMar, Kansas City, MO; adopted grandparents, Beverly and Curtis Bracken, Devils Lake, ND; Godparents, Gary and JoAnn Matthews, Fargo, ND and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herbert Oliver Anderson, maternal great-grandparents, William E. DeMar, Carl Weltzin, Maxine Weltzin and great-aunt, Clara Sue Weltzin-Dixon.
