Daughter of John Fleming Dragoo Sr.
and his wife Barbara Ann Level,
of Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan.
She was one of nine children.

Note: Her name is spelled with only
one "L", in the family bible which
was owned by Isabel and her husband
William Harrison Barnhouse (and
probably written by Isabel herself),
and with only one "L" in her infant son
Samuel's obituary, and in the obituary
for her infant son Herbert Clyde Knight,
in the local newspaper. Also with only
one "L" in a photo-copy of the
"origional" record of her marriage
to William H. Barnhouse.
Also listed with only one "L" in
two differant land records in
Berrien County Michigan.
(Her name is spelled with two "L's"
on her headstone).

William Harrison Barnhouse, on
April 9, 1865, in Buchanan,
Berrien County Michigan, by
Enoch A. Ross, Justice of the Peace.
Wittiness' were Tucker S. Dragoo
(who was a cousin of BOTH William
and Isabel), and his wife Sarah.

Note: Enoch A. Ross (their "Justice
of the "Peace"), was the son of
Benjamin and Rachel Ross.
Enoch served in the Mexican War.
He moved from Indiana to Michigan
in 1858. He was later listed as
a lawyer in Buchanan, Michigan.
Enoch was the first husband of
Clara Mansfield, the daughter of
Ira and Mahala Mansfield. They were
married on Dec. 15, 1861. They had
a son, Benjamin Ira Ross, born
about 1864. Both Enoch and Benjamin
Ira are buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Enoch's wife Clara later married
William More, and is buried in the
More Mausoleum, in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

William Harrison Barnhouse was a
veteran of the Civil War.
(He had been captured and held in a
prisioner-of-war camp, but was later
released in a prisioner exchange).
They had four children: two (twins)
died as infants (Nellie and Samuel),
and one son (Ira Wellington Barnhouse),
died at 24 years, in Missouri.
The remaining daughter Nancy Barnhouse
married John Michael Meffert Sr., and
they moved to Lowell, Marion County Florida
(near Ocala), and they had 10 children.
William and Isabel lived in Section 15,
of Buchanan Twp., Berrien Co. Michigan
(about one mile North of Buchanan).
Isabel's husband William Harrison
Barnhouse died at 36 years of age,
in 1876.

Married # 2. On Feb. 28, 1878,
to Melvin L. Knight, in
Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan,
by Levi Sparks, Justice of the Peace,
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey.
Their marriage record states the following:
Married Feb. 28, 1878 in Buchanan, MI,
Melvin L. Knight age 22, of Buchanan, MI,
and was born in LaPorte, LaPorte Co. IN,
and Isabel (Dragoo) Barnhouse age 30, of
Buchanan, MI, was born in Buchanan,
Berrien Co. MI. Marriage preformed by
Levi Sparks, Justice of The Peace.
Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J.
Bailey of Buchanan, Michigan.

(Levi Sparks served in the Michigan
State Senate in 1873, and as a
Buchanan township clerk in 1878).
Melvin and Isabel had one child
Herbert Clyde Knight,
who died as an infant.
Isabel and Melvin Knight must have
divorced, as Melvin L. Knight age 29, of
Berrien Springs, MI was
later remarried, on Nov. 11, 1885,
in Berrien Springs, MI, to
Nora Belle Malum (sp?), (or "Molem"),
age 21, in Berrien Springs,
Berrien County Michigan. They
were married by J. F. Bartness, Minister.

Melvin and Nora had two known children:
Minnie Knight, born March 26, 1887, in
Berrien Springs, Michigan, and
Loren Allen Monroe Knight, born
May 6, 1897, in Berrien Springs, MI,
and died Dec. 8, 1921, age 22,
in Cook County Illinois.

Isabel had gone back to using the
surname of "Barnhouse" by the time
she sold land in Buchanan township,
Berrien County Michigan, to her younger
brother Julius Dragoo [Sr.],
on Dec. 4, 1884.

Land records show that Isabel "Knight"
sold the farm she and William Harrison
Barnhouse had owned in Section 15, of
Buchanan townhship, to her brother
John F. Dragoo [Jr.], on June 20, 1881.

Isabel then moved [between 1884 and
1885], with her widowed mother
Barbara Ann (Level) Dragoo,
and some of her siblings
(John Fleming Dragoo Jr., and
Barbara Ann (Dragoo) Kelley),
to Fairfield, Clay County Nebraska,
where Isabel died in 1888, at the age
of 40 years, 1 month, and 17 days.

Note: Isabel's daughter Nancy and
husband John Michael Meffert Sr.
also left Buchanan, MI about 1884-85
and they moved to Lowell, near
Ocala, Marion County Florida.
