Roseann was the daughter of Tunis and Catharine (Drake) Newkirk. She was in her late teens when her parents made the move westward over the Wilderness Trail which led through Kentucky across the Falls of the Ohio River, through Indiana and Illinois, to central Missouri. Rosean's parents took up land in Howard County, Missouri, in a section that later became Moniteau County.

Roseann married William G. Howard on November 4, 1841 in Morgan County, Missouri. Their only child was Charles Thompson Howard, born September 17, 1842 in Moniteau County, Missouri.

Roseann was only 25 when she passed away.
