She was married to Louis J Stephens of Grandview, and they lived there from around 1946 to her death.
They have one son, James W. of Orange, Ca. He and his wife Shirley L. (Fisher) Stephens live in Ca, but retain properties in Grandview, Mo. and Wayne County, Mo.
She studied for a teaching degree at Cape Giradeau, Mo. and taught school in Lowdnes Missouri in the early 40's. She later completed her studies at Warrensburg, Mo at CMSTC (prior to it being CMSU) and at extension classes at UMKC.
She taught elementry school from 1961 for the Grandview School system, until retirement in 1985. At her retirement she had also earned a Masters in teaching specializing in learning disabilities. Her interest in that was thought to come from the difficulties her sister Blanche had, and her special care of people who needed help with learning.
She also had earned enough extra credits to qualify for a specialist degree (doctorate) to advance her teaching for Consolidated School district #4 in Grandview.
She was very gifted in crafts, and enjoyed an active retirement of making clothes, decorating her house very elegantly with her own works, reading, and she and Louis attended many events with relatives, enjoying country music.
