Rebecca (Labovitz) Brinig was born Jun 6, 1857 (History of Montana, 1913) in Romania. She married Moses Brinig and emigrated to the United States. In Butte, she and her husband became the owners of the OK dry goods store on East Park, reportedly the first one in town that offered credit.

Rebecca and Moses were the parents of nine children including Sarah, Jack, Louis, Henry, Bill, Sol (who had a twin sister who died), Peter and Myron. Myron Brinig was a famous and celebrated novelist whose books portrayed growing up Jewish in the raucous mining town of Butte. Many of his main characters were inspired by his family and neighbors. His best known works were "Singermann" (1929), "Wide Open Town" (1931), "This Man is My Brother" (1932) and "The Sun Sets in the West" (1935).

Rebecca's granddaughter said her grandparents were very Orthodox Jews who kept a kosher house. They were hard working people.

After her husband's death, Rebecca lived in a four unit apartment bought by her son Myron for her on 533 W. Mercury There she lived until she died on June 23, 1943 in Butte.
