In May of 1826 he moved to Washtenaw County and bought 80 acres of land 1 1/2 miles south of the Village of Saline. His farm was the second farm south of the Salt Spring Reserve. He and his brother Orrin went immediately to Monroe to purchase the land they wanted.
“To Chester and Orrin Parsons are due the honor of erecting the first building in Saline Township, being a much-needed sawmill.” (History of Washtenaw County, 1881, page 1405).
Soon after, he and his brother cut a road from Saline Village to intersect the Tecumseh Road, making it easier to travel from Saline to Milan. Chester kept a hotel, which was useful before the railroad was built from Saline to Ypsilanti. In 1881, he was living in the former hotel.
The 1850 US Census in Saline Township shows Chester Parsons, 50, a farmer with real estate worth $7,800; wife Deborah, 45; and children, Lucindo, 24; Mary, 20; Alfred, 19, Harriet, 18; Sarah, 16; and Melissa, 7.
Ancestry lists his children as follows: Lucinda b 1825; James b 1826; Mary Electa b 1828; Alfred 1830; Harriet, 1832; Sarah, 1833; and Melissa, 1843.
The 1881 biography indicates his first wife died, and he remarried on nov. 9, 1876. His second wife, Jenette Wakefield, was the widow of Utley Wakefield. Jenette was born June 10, 1823 near Albany, NY.
