Lisbon, Nov, 18—George Middlemiss passed away Nov. 14th at the home of his sister, Mrs. Janette Carragher following a short illness.

Mr. Middlemiss was born in the town of Lisbon, 1842 and Aug. 31, 1864 he enlisted in Co. D 39th Regiment, New York Volunteers and served until the end of the war under second lieutenant Charles Mensler and C. N. S. Wood, Captain of the company.

He participated in several battles among which were; Gettysburg and Petersburg. Mr. Middlemiss carried a bullet in Ills shoulder to Ms grave which he received in one of these battles. He received his honorable discharge June 7, 1865 and on returning home married Miss Anna Jorden of Canada and lived here all his life except a few years they lived in Ottawa.

Mr. Middlemiss was held in high esteem in this community as a kind neighbor who was always ready to give a helping hand. He was a loyal citizen not only in his service during the war but in times of peace. Anna Jorden Middlemiss died April, 1910 and in October, 1923 Mr. Middlemiss married Matilda Hayes, who still survives and is in very feeble health at the home of relatives in Potsdam.

Mr. Middlemiss when he had become feeble and blind lived with his sister, Mrs. Janette Carragher and son, William and grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Middlemiss, who together with the other relatives of the household very lovingly cared for him until his death.

Besides his aged widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Dolman of Ottawa, Mrs Emma Brouse of Syracuse, one son, George Middlemiss of Ottawa, a sister, Mrs. Janette Carragher with whom he spent his last days, one brother, John Middlemiss of Madrid besides several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who mourn the going of a father, brother, grandfather and uncle.

Funeral services were held Wednesday p. m. at 2 o'clock from his sister's home. Rev. Alfred Martin, present supply of the U.P. Church officiated. Interment was made in the White Church cemetery. Members of the American Legion of which Mr. Middlemiss was a member were present at the grave and paid military honors.

Among those from out of town who were present at the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Islah Price and daughter, Mary Jane, of Madrid, Nelson Hayes of Terrace Park, Mrs. John Taylor of Pyrites, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Baker of Ogdensburg; Mrs. Elizabeth Brownlee and Miss Eva LaValle of Ottawa.

The pall bearers were four nephews, John and William Carragher, John Brown and Samuel Baker.
