Bernard was the son of Dominic Mudd & Catherine Matilda Boswell. He married Anne Louise Franklin on 26 November 1879 & they had 12 children. Bernard was a student at Gonzaga School at the outbreak of the Civil War. He served as a messenger for the Confederacy. Bernard served several terms as County Commissioner of Charles Co MD.
