Obituary for Christopher Columbus Lee. Preston Republican. Terra Alta, WV. Thur., Mar. 10, 1932. pg. 4

Christopher Columbus Lee was born June 25, 1840, and died at the home of his son, Forrest, at Albright, W.Va., on February 14, 1932. He was 91 years, 7 months and 19 days old. He was born near Charleston, W.Va., the son of Nicholas and Frances King Lee. On July 9, 1863, he was united in marriage to Judith Tichnell, who preceded him to the great beyond 31 years ago. To this union were born seven children, Forrest L. of Albright; Nicholas T. of Cranesville; Mrs. Ethel Wolfe of Cranesville; Theodore of Terra Alta and Moses R., W. A., and James B., the latter three being deceased.

On July 4, 1861 he enlisted as a private in the Civil War, joining the 7th W.Va. Co. A, and was promoted to Captain before the close of the war. He saw service on the battlefields of Antietam and Fredericksburg, having been wounded in both battles. He was loyal to his fellowman, his country and to his God. He was always very liberal in the church, his motto being "pay until it hurts."

He leaves among others, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Groves, more familiarly known as "Grandma Groves," who will be 90 years of age next July.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gibbs of the Terra Alta M. E. Church, at the Oak Grove M. E. Church, of which he was a member. It was chiefly through the influence, labor and means of the deceased that we have this church today. Interment was made in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
