Goldie Bell Parks, 92, a long-time Sand Springs resident died Thursday, June 17, 2010 in Oklahoma City. She was born in Rankin, Oklahoma on July 28, 1917, one of seven children born to Edwin H. Williams and Lula M. (Garver) Williams. Goldie and Elzy G. Parks were married in Reydon, Oklahoma in January 1934, and had celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to this death in 1985. She was a member of Rim Rock Baptist Church for many years. Goldie had worked at many things through the years, with her most recent employment as an attendant in a small neighborhood laundry where she assisted customers with laundry and dry cleaning needs. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed clothing for herself, her children and her grandchildren. Seemingly born with a "green thumb" she took great pride in her vegetable gardens each year and both enjoyed and shared the green beans, tomatoes, okra and other garden produce that she grew. Goldie is survived by two daughters; Nita Norine Gambill of Guthrie, and Lovella Ellis of Sand Springs; two sisters, Ina Cole of Oklahoma City and Zella Biggs of Guthrie. Surviving grandchildren include Phil's children, Carla, Eugene, Sherman, Paige, Warren, Byron, and Carla, Norine's children, Vernon, Michele, Jean, and Judy, and Lovella'a children, Sheri, Mike and DeeAna. Thirty-four great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren also survive her in addition to many other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elzy Parks, two sons, Phil Parks and Dwight Parks and his wife Beatrice, one sister and three brothers, one grandson, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation for Goldie will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 22nd, and June 23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services will be at Rimrock Baptist Church, 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010, with Rev. Rex Hecox and Rev. Bob Chambers officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service.
