Son of Benjamin Franklin Selbe and Maude Estella Hively Selbe who resided at 309 West Eighteenth Street, Wilmington, Delaware during the war.

Paul served as a 1st Lieutenant, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on August 20, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Lawyer with the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware and also as being Single, without dependents.

Paul was one of seven Army personnel killed when C-47B Skytrain #43-30682 faltered on take-off and crashed at the intersection of 38th & Mare Streets in Oakland, California.

The plane was part of the 94th Troop Carrier Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group assigned to the Laurinburg-Maxton Army Air Base, North Carolina.

It is currently unknown if Paul was assigned to the plane or was a passenger.

Paul had served in the Air Corps for one year and five months at the time of his death.
