BLACKVILLE, S.C- Herman Brown, a prominet farmer an buisnessman in this area, died Monday at the Barnwell County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. today at the graveside in Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta, Ga. The body is at the Folk Funeral Home in Williston, S.C.
Mr. Brown was born in Blackville Oct. 11, 1876.
He was educated at the local Blackville school. McCabe's University School, Petersburg, Va., and attended Wofford Fitting School, Spartanburg, S.C., and The Citadel at Charleston, S.C.
Mr. Brown began his business career in the office of his father. In 1904 he and his brother, Isadore took over the Simon Brow business and started the firm of Simon Browns's Sons.
In 1902 he married Zelma Beerwald of Philadelphia, Pa. They had four children.
Survivors include his wife; a son D. Stanley Brown of Blackville; a daughter, Mrs. J. Nat Hamrick of Rutherfordton, N.C.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Another son, Herman Jr. was a second Lieutenant who was killed in the Pacific Theater in September, 1942.
