Elmer Leo was the grandson of Frederick John Bahr and Margaret Kessler [see memorials]. His grandparents lived in Ohio, N.Y., Pennsylvania and Virginia before moving to Cumberland, where his father, Harvey, was born.

Elmer was a military US Navy COX veteran in WWI. His service no. is 1100995. He served aboard the USS Jarvis, USS Seattle and the USS El Doheny. According to a relative, Elmer also served at the Mexican border. How he did so in the Navy is unknown. Elmer was honorably discharged Feb. 24, 1919.

Elmer's first marriage was to an unknown woman.

His second marriage was to Gertrude L. Sutton (Seneca Native American). Besides two children from her first marriage, Elmer and Gertrude had one son> Leo Robert Bahr. They lived in Brighton, NY. In 1940, they moved to Rochester, NY.
