Alfred Fred Kelch was born 31 October 1893 to Ernst Kelch and Anna nee Dossmann, in Yorktown, Texas. Death came on Thursday, 9 April 1987. He had reached the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
Alfred was engaged in farming and ranching in Yorktown until he moved in 1941. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown. He was both baptized and confirmed there by Rev. J. K. Poch, the confirmation being on Palm Sunday, 4 April 1908. He served on the building committee for many years and also was a Sunday School teacher.
He was married to Rosalie Kneese by Rev. Glatzle at Zion, Fredericksburg on 31 May 1916. She preceded him in death on 29 October 1955. There were four children born to this marriage; Hubert Alfred, Hendie Rosalie, Enos Henry (1923-1988), and Celeta Emma.
On 27 November 1957, Alfred was married to Tillie Burrer Lehne at Zion, Fredericksburg, by Rev. Gus W. Sager, and she survived him.
Alfred was also survived by his children and their spouses: Hendie and Johnny Kolmeier, Fredericksburg; Enos and Neva Kelch, Amarillo; and Celeta and Emil Metting, Kerrville. Also three step-children and spouses: Franklin and Virginia Lehne, Fredericksburg; Louise and Leroy Woerner, Fredericksburg; and Alice and Robert Fogg, San Antonio.
He was also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
Preceding hím in death were one son, Hubert, Oct 1974; one sister, Ella, Mrs. Rufus Kneese Mar 1977; and one brother, Ernst Kelch Aug 1910.
Alfred was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church since moving to Fredericksburg. He served two terms on the Church Council and sang for many years with both the Mixed and Men's Choirs.
