A.E. Lewis died at his home in Cherry Spring. Mr. Lewis spent most of his life in Gillespie County and adjoining counties, engaged in farming and ranching. He has been identified with the early history of this area, and was familiar with and had a share in the development and building of this part of Texas. He was acquainted with many men and women who pioneered in Texas and knew many interesting stories connected with early Texas when the Indians raided white settlements and before civilization made the country a safe place to live. In 1883, Mr. Lewis married Miss Anna Weige, the daughter of Henry Weige, on of the early Texas settlers. Nine children were born and raised in this marriage, eight of whom survive him. His parents were Major William C. Lewis and Mrs. Cecilia Lewis, well known to the older people of Gillespie county and who lived here many years ago. He is also survived by two brothers - Perry J. Lewis and William C. Lewis. He was buried in the Union cemetery in Fredricksburg. The services were held in the home of Honorable William Biershwale officiated by Rev. McDougal of Kerrville.
