Obituary:

Henry Alberthal, 83, was killed instantly on Sunday afternoon at 6:30pm when the car he was driving was struck by another, as he was turning from the Mason Highway three miles north of Fredericksburg.

Alberthal was returning home after having attended the Old Teamster's Reunion on Sunday afternoon. He was accompanied by his son-in-law, Adolf Schneider of San Antonio, who was also injured in the crash but released from the hospital early this week.

The wreck occurred when Alberthal turned off the Mason highway onto the old Mason road near the Richard Stehling farm and his car was struck by an automibile driven by G C Grayson of Wichita Falls, which was traveling in the opposite direction. Grayson was accompanied by his wife and two children.

Alberthal sustained a broken neck and Schneider was injured when he was hurled from the car. The Graysons were not seriously hurt. Neither car was seriously damanged.

Alberthal was a native of Gillespie county and was born here on June 1862, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Gelzer Alberthal and had attained the age of 83 years, 2 months and 29 days.

He was united in marriage with Miss Lena Langehennig on March 8, 1886 and she preceded him in death on February 10, 1933.

The Alberthal's made their home in the Rheingold community until 1903 when they moved to the Cherry Mountain community where he resided until his death. Following the sale of his farm about four years ago, he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Willie Thiele.

Survivors include seven sons: Alvin, Alfred, Harry, Edmund, Emil, Richard and Benno Alberthal; four daughters, Ida, Mrs. E J Ahrens; Hulda, Mrs. Willie Thiele and Bessie, Mrs. Otto Freidrich of here; and Elna, Mrs. Adolf Schneider of San Antonio; 35 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Also surviving is one sister, Anna, Mrs. Willie Moellering.

One son died in infancy and he was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: August, Carl, and Herman Alberthal; Minnia, Mrs. J L Durst; and Clara, Mrs. Henry Ahrens.

The Rev. Otto Lindenberg officiated in the final rites in the Schaetter Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4, at 3pm and burial was made in the City Cemetery.
