D.H. Hamilton, 76, resident of Carnegie since 1915, died in Wesley hospital, Oklahoma City, at 11 p.m. Thursday after a week's illness. Services were at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist church. Rev. Chas. P.D. Mann, pastor, preached the sermon and Rev. Elza Jorns, superintendent of the Clinton district of the Methodist church, a nephew of Mr. Hamilton, read the scripture. Pitcher's had charge of arrangements and burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.
Mr. Hamilton was stricken at his home a week ago Saturday and was taken to the Carnegie hospital Sunday Thursday he was taken to Wesley for consultation, arriving in the city about 5:30 p.m. He died suddenly at 11 o'clock.
David Hillary Hamilton was born Nov. 18, 1871, near Austin, Texas. He came with his parents to old Greer county in 1889. He was married to Martha Shelton Feb. 4, 1892, near Hedrick. They came to Carnegie in 1915 and have made their home here since.
Mr. Hamilton joined the Methodist church, South, in early life and devoted much time to church work. He served on the board of stewards, the board of trustees and as Sunday school superintendent. For many years he worked as a clerk in Carnegie stores, retiring several years ago.
Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Martha Hamilton of the home; four brothers, J.M. Hamilton, Nolan, Texas; D.W. Hamilton, Lebanon, Ore.; Steve Hamilton, of California, and J.H. Hamilton, Cortex, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. J.F. Pottorff, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Joe Ford, Lubbock, Texas, and Mrs. R.S. Jolly of this place, and a step-sister, Mrs. W.W. Martin of Hobart. All were here for the funeral except Mrs. Ford and D.W. and Steve Hamilton.
