Mordecai's Quaker family were some of the first pioneers that moved, during May 1773, into this part of Virginia. They were granted a certificate by the Exeter MM on 28 Apr 1773 to Hopewell MM, VA. and they relocated from Oley, Pennsylvania to Frederick Co., Virginia.
Between 1751 and 1769 they had 10 children that in the order of their births were named: Susanna, Nehemiah, Elinor, Jane, Amy, Elinor #2, Samual, Mordecai Jr., Jesse and Susannah Ellis.
∼ Of their 10 children, all but one was born in Berks Co., Pennsylvania but..#9, Rebecca was born in Virginia. One of the sons married in Virginia in 1774 so the family moved to Tennesse after that. When he died, Mary requested a letter from the Meeting with intent to go back to Oley, Berks Co., Pennsylvania which she did but I have been unable to find the Monthly Meeting she went to.
