He married Elsie Nixon on February 24, 1901 in Wayne County, West Virginia at the home of his parents.

Arnold owned and operated a grocery store in Huntington on Fourth Avenue, he was shot in the chest and abdomen while at his store by a man named Kenneth Perry. Arnold was taken to a local hospital where he died but not before being able to tell who shot him.
Arnold's funeral was held at Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church and he was buried on April 15, 1932.
