Zebulon Hollingsworth

Zebulon was the son of Henry Hollingsworth and Mary Murray. He married Elizabeth Jane Chesnutt. Zebulon was a soldier of the American Revolution, serving in the NC Militia under Col. James Kenan. He was approved a pension for Revolutionary War services in 1834.

1-20-13. I was just notified that the Revolutionary War gravestone, of Zebulon Hollingsworth was removed from his grave and moved to a more convenient location by the property owners. I would like to think this is in violation of NC law, specifically:
§ 14-148. Defacing or desecrating grave sites.
(a)It is unlawful to willfully: Take away, disturb, vandalize, destroy or "change the location of any stone", brick, iron or other material or fence enclosing a cemetery without authorization of law or consent of the surviving spouse or next of kin of the deceased.
I understand the property where the grave is located fell to the hands of grandchildren and they had the gravestone removed.
I encourage anyone to contact Officials of Sampson County if they are concerned about this grave desecration.
