He was FATHER to:
three children

Toll's early life had him doing
a variety of jobs. He traveled
around the world and hile living
this special adventure, he was
offered a new job while residing
in Hawaii. Toll, in May of 1919,
joined the US National Park Service.

He transferred, after just 2 1/2 years,
to the position of Superintendent of
the 'Rocky Mountain National Park.'
Toll followed Horace Albright
(on Feb. 1st, 1929) as Yellowstone's
Superintendent and Field Assistant
to the Director.

The legacy of Roger Toll was in
his superb firsthand investigations
and reports on proposed park areas.
Toll's work benefited several regions.
They include:
*Death Valley;
*Joshua Tree;
*Big Bend;
*Everglades;

National Parks Director Horace Albright
credited Roger Toll with having made
reports presenting lands that were
"explored and even photographed;" He
"described most of the canyons of the
Colorado from the headwaters in the
Rockies to the California line."

Roger Toll was serving with the
U.S. National Park Service's Wildlife
Superintendent, George Melendez Wright,
on a special International Commission.
This was a new project that was
drawing attention.

The men were investigating the possible
establishment of international parks,
forest reserves and wildlife refuges
along the Mexican-American border.
It was a 'UNITED STATES /
MEXICAN COMMISSION'.

They men were traveling to the
Ajo Mountains in Arizona. While
enroute, the twosome were killed
in an automobile accident.

a Park Service contemporary
commented on the loss of the
pair of dedicated men, saying:
"History does not reveal
her alternatives."

is named for him: 'Mount Toll'
