Malachi McCoy served in the Sixth Regiment of the
North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. His D.A.R. patriot number is A07566. Malachi's first son, Willis, was a "Pacifist", but his second son, Lassell
McCoy served in the War of 1812. His last
son, Malachi McCoy Jr. first served in the
Mexican War and then later served as a
captain in the Civil War in the 50th
Indiana Volunteer Infantry. One grandson,
and one great grandson also served for
the Union cause in the Civil War with
the latter giving his life at Shiloh. Another grandson served in the Spanish American War.
Malachi and his family settled in Washington County, Indiana from Perquimans County, North Carolina in 1818 .He was a farmer and had 5 children by his first wife, Ann Lassell McCoy and 8 by his second wife, Clarkey Maudlin McCoy Stout. Each was named and provided for in his will.
