His family and friends called him "Charles."

By 1925, he was an inmate at The New York Catholic Protectory in The Bronx, New York City. This was a brutal, church run, facility for criminal children and orphans. I have no idea what he did to be placed in this institution.

He survived The Great Depression by working as a dishwasher. He died at 29 years of age while incarcerated at Rikers Island Prison, The Bronx, NYC. He killed himself in the early morning hours of January 29th 1940. Again, I have no information as to why he was arrested.

According to the death certificate, Charles committed suicide by asphyxiation by hanging during a bout of severe mental depression.

The burial took place on February 2, 1940.

The funeral arrangements were made by M. A. Orlando of Orlando's Funeral Home of 601 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211.

A short life, with a sad end. Forever in a better place in God's loving care.

My thanks to my friend LReneeTS for her great kindness in sponsoring this memorial.
