Wednesday rites for George Bailey:
Well known Stanberry resident died Sunday night at home; was a bridge foreman:

George W. Bailey, retired Wabash Railroad Co. bridge foreman and a well known
Stanberry resident, died suddenly about 7:30 o'clock Sunday night at his home
here. Bailey, who suffered a stroke about 11 years ago, had been in his usual
state of health until the fatal attack.

Funeral services were held for him yesterday afternoon at the First Christian
church here, with the Rev. Charles R. Hagee, the pastor, officiating. Burial
was in the High Ridge cemetery.

A native of the Island City community, much of this active life had been spent
there and in Stanberry. He entered the employ of the Wabash as a bridge
carpenter in 1910, and later became a bridge foreman with the company. Among
the more important pieces of work he was employed on by the Wabash, was the
wrecking of the old Eads bridge after the completion of the new bridge over
the Mississippi river at St. Louis.

He was the son of the late James and Hester A. Bailey, and was born April 26,
1876, near Island City. Had he lived until Next April 26, he would have been
75 years old.

The family lived for a few years in Nebraska, but later returned to the Island
City vicinity, where he was married to Mrs. Tressa Gillett in 1902. She die
about 45 years ago.

On June 16, 1928, he was married to Mrs. Lottie Collier in Council Bluffs,
Ia., and they made their home there until they came to Stanberry nearly 19
years ago. Since that time Stanberry has been their home.

In early life he united with the Island City Christian church and never
transferred his membership from that church.

He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughter, who are Mrs. John
Messner, Mrs. Lee Graves and Mrs. Leland Boatwright, all of Stanberry; two
daughters by his first marriage; they are Mrs. Grace DuVal of Richmond, Mo.,
and Mrs. Electa McNeill, of Graham, Mo.; two step-children, who are, Mrs.
Overlin Arnburg and Richard Collier, of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, who are,
Mrs. Josephine Macey, of Ogallala, Neb., and Mrs. Florence Johnson, of
Stanberry; two step-children, Mrs. Ada Angle of King City and Harvey Gillett
of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
