John, who resided at 929 East Seventeenth Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Sergeant with the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Yankee Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on January 28, 1942 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as a Carpenter and also as being Single, without dependents at the time of his enlistment.

He drowned during night training when an assault boat capsized in the Cumberland River. He had served in the Army for two years and two months at the time of his death.
