John William Bennett, was born in Vaughnville, Ohio, and departed this life at Chetopa, Kansas, July 28, 1965 having attained the age of 89 years, 8 months and 19 days. He, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett, came to Labette County, Kansas, when he was 9 years of age, and he has made his home in and around Edna, Chetopa, and Bartlett, Kansas since. He was married to Miss Emma Frances Robinet, at Edna, Kansas, Sept. 15, 1897. Mrs. Bennett passed away Aug. 26, 1959. Surviving are 3 sons, Jack of Torrence, California, Clarence of Neodesha, and Meredith of Bartlett with whom he made his home until he went to the rest home in Chetopa. Four daughters, Mrs. Mable Triebel of Edna, and Mrs. Mary Ellen Goodwin also of Edna, Mrs. Virgina Anding of Crawley, Louisiana, and Mrs. Ruby Layton of Caney. Also 36 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Clyde Phillips of Lafayette, Colorado. Four children and five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Bennett was a concrete worker and farmer. However, he was a master in his work in concrete. He was laid to rest in North Edna Cemetery. Services were conducted at the Bartlett Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Hollis officiating. Singers: Mrs. Carl Reitz and Mrs. Clide RAndall. Pianist, Mrs. Clyde Houston. Songs: "In The Garden," "Going Down the Valley." Pallbearers: Art Testerman, Dale Hoover, Rolla Layton, Bob Hunt, Art Tunget, R.A. Tullis.
