Ruth A. Swartfager, 97, of New Bethlehem, died early Monday morning, May 14, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion.

Born March 19, 1910, in Porter Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of William E and Pearl E. Hepler Pence.

Mrs. Swartfager worked on the family farm along with being a homemaker. She was a member of the Leatherwood Church, the Faith in Action Ladies Group of the church and was a volunteer for the Area Agency on Aging.

Mrs. Swartfager was married June 13, 1929, to Harry L. Swartfager, who preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1990.

Surviving are two sons, Hillis A. Swartfager of Sligo RD 1 and Glenn J. Swartfager and wife, Sandy, of New Bethlehem RD 3; two daughters, Janet L. Swartfager of Clarion RD 1 and Floda P. Swartfager of New Bethlehem RD 3; and one daughter-in-law, Edna Swartfager of Knox RD 1. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; three stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Swartfager was preceded in death by two infant children; a son, Harold Lee Swartfager; a daughter-in-law, Anna Mae Swartfager; four sisters, Margaret Goheen, Mildred Walls, Bernice Henry and Alma Pence; and one brother, Clarence Pence.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Henry, pastor of the Leatherwood Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Leatherwood Cemetery.
