Son of Oppie Absolum Anastas, Sr. and Della Winslow.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 18, 1940 at Mineral Wells, Texas. At the time, he was single, and his occupation was listed under musicians and teachers of music.

He married Billie Joyce Lane.

He was a retired fireman and a veteran of World War II, 55 years old, married, and a resident of Elderville, Texas for the past 15 years. Informant was his wife, Mrs. Billie J. Anastas; burial was January 6, 1978. Rader Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force (FSSF) in recognition of its superior service during World War II. On February 3, 2015 surviving FSSF Veterans were in Washington DC to accept this momentous recognition on behalf of their fellow Forcemen who could not be there.
