Bruce E. Ball Sr., 87, of LaCrosse died at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003. Bruce was born on April 11, 1916, to La Vina Pace and Columbus Ball in Evartz, Ky.

Bruce graduated from Evartz High School in 1934. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Force in World War II and was very proud to serve his country. He married Lillian Pretasky on Oct. 29, 1949. He worked for 29 years at City Hall in LaCrosse.

He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters; his wife, Lillian; one son, Bruce Jr., two infant daughters and one infant son.

Bruce was a man of few words and had a dry wit all his own that we all enjoyed. He was a compassionate man. Bruce, Lillian and Bruce Jr. owned and operated a popcorn stand on the northside of LaCrosse for many years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., LaCrosse. The Rev. Roger Scheckel will officiate, with burial to be held in the Catholic Cemetery. Blaschke Funeral Homes-Nelson Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements
